Who are we, and what do we do?
Berriew Community Council consists of 11 elected /co-opted members. The Council meets in the committee room, Berriew Community Centre on the second Thursday of each month with the exception of August and December.
The general purpose of the Community Council is to represent the interests of the community, and where necessary express the communities views to Powys County Council or any other body.
The Community Council has a number of responsibilities such as –
Public Conveniences
Street lighting
Litter bins
Bus shelters and
Footpaths to name a few
The Community Council also looks at highway issues and local planning applications.
The Council has powers to raise funds through its “precept” i.e. raising a sum collected with the council tax each year to improve/provide facilities and services for local people.
Members of the public are welcome to attend meetings, and time is set aside for public participation to ask questions, make statements etc. The public however must not take part at any other time during the meeting.
